Peter Schuhmayer, born in Vienna , studied at the Hochschule f. Musik u.
darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Hertha Binder and Josef Suk, with
Alfred Staar , Hatto Beyerle and at the University of Cincinnati with the LaSalle Quartet.
First price for chamber music and special prize of the Vienna Philharmonic
at the Austrian Youth Competition 1979.
1980-85 member of the "Wiener Streichersolisten".
Since 1980 as first violinist and founding member of the ARTIS-QUARTET
of Vienna, he was prize winner at competitions in Cambridge (GB),
Evian(F) and Yellow Springs (US). He appeared at the most prestigious
halls and festivals in Europe and abroad -Musikverein Vienna,
Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Theatre Champs Elysees and Salle Pleyel
Paris, Philharmonie Berlin, Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall
London, Carnegie Hall/Stern/Weill auditoriums, Washington/Kennedy
Center, Buenos Aires/Teatro Colon, Suntory Hall Tokyo and received
international recording awards including Echo Klassik (D), Grand Prix du
Disque (F), Diapason d' Or (F), Prix Caecilia (B), Indie Award (USA),
Wiener Flötenuhr (A) and Midem Classical Award (F).
P.S. performed with artists like Mischa Maisky, Christoph Eschenbach,
Richard Stoltzman, Sharon Kam, Juliane Banse, Till Fellner and Sol
Gabetta.
Mr. Schuhmayer is serving as tutor and jury member and teaches
masterclasses for violion and chamber music in Austria , France, Lithuania,
Estonia, Japan, USA, Canada / McGill International String Quartet
Academy , Belgium /Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, Finland/ Sibelius
Academy.
1993-98 guest professor for chamber music at the University of Music and
Performing Arts Graz.
Since 1996 Mr. Schuhmayer is on the faculty of the University of Music
and Performing Arts in Vienna teaching violin and chamber music.
